My name is Carmen and I am a Senior Policy Associate for the Healthy Environment Alliance of Utah (HEAL Utah). I am reaching out today to share a press release from HEAL Utah and partners in California and Washington who are raising the alarm over evidence that Utah is being positioned to host high-level radioactive waste from other states, including potentially spent nuclear fuel from San Onofre and radioactive waste from the Hanford cleanup.
This comes after Utah was selected as one of five states for the Department of Energy’s “Nuclear Lifecycle Innovation Campus” initiative. State officials have indicated interest in working with other states to find a solution for their nuclear waste, while Utahns have not been given a meaningful opportunity to weigh in.
